Top 10 Harry Potter Film Locations in UK

As one of the biggest fans of Harry Potter, I wanted to share with you this amazing Harry Potter Film locations around the UK. I, myself, have visited some of them but unfortunately, I couldn’t do them all. So, I hope for the Potter Heads who plan to visit the United Kingdom soon to not miss this top 10 locations.


1. King’s Cross Station

No need to explain more, it’s the famous King’s cross station that we had in Monopoly. If you don’t know, it does exist in the real world. Today, you can take a photo with half a luggage cart disappearing into the wall with your favorite Hogwarts’ House Scarf and visit the adjacent Harry Potter Shop.

The wall between Platforms 5 & 6

Movie : All 8 movies

Shot : it’s where the students board the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9  ¾.

Fact : There’s no wall between the platforms 9 and 10. The wall which featured in the movies actually exist between platforms 4 and 5

2. Millennium Bridge



Movie : Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Shot : The opening scene where the Death-Eaters destroy the bridge and it collapses.

3. Australian House


Movie : Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Shot : the interior of the Gringots Bank has been filmed inside the Australian House.

Fact : The building is not open for public but you can visit the exterior.

4. Leadenhall Market


Movie : Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone

Shot : the Market is shown in the movies as the exterior for Diagon Alley and Leaky Caulderon.

Fact : Leadenhall market is London’s most beautiful Victorian Market. You can go for a drink with your friends at one of the many pubs of this Victorian Market.

5. Harry Potter Studios


You can’t leave London without visiting the HP studios. It might be quite expensive (£50 for adults) but it is worth it. You can get access to some amazing sets from the Harry Potter movies as well as some of the fabulous behind the scenes at their production, all with the award-winning tour.


6. Alnwick Castle


Movie : Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone and the Chamber of Secrets.

Shot : The castle has been used for so many exterior and interior Hogwarts shots.

Fact : It’s the second largest inhabited castle in England

7. Durham Cathedral



Movie : Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the Chamber of Secrets and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Shot : The cathedral has been used to shot some exterior and interior of Hogwarts Castle. You can recognize easily the scenes from the photos.

8. Oxford University


Movie : Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the Chamber of Secrets and the Goblet of Fire

Shot : It has served in many scenes such as, Hogwarts Infirmary (Divinity Hall), Hogwarts Library (Duke Humphries Library), The Stairway where the ‘first year’ students met Professor McGonagall for the first time and Hogwarts Dining Hall (Christ Church, in all the 8 movies).


9. Glenfinnan Viaduct


Movie : Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the Prisoner of Azkaban, and the Goblet of Fire

Shot : the famous Harry Potter bridge or referred to as “The Bridge to Hogwarts”, where the Hogwarts Express passes on its way to the Castle.

Fact : The cost of the bridge was only £18,904.(Indicated on a board at one of the bridge’s pier)

10. Loch Shiel


Movie : All 8 movies

Shot : Loch Shiel (Commonly known as the Black Lake) was used for exterior shots of the Hogwarts grounds and as lake for the Triwizard Tournament. The small island in the lake is where Albus Dumbledore was laid to rest in his White Tomb.

Obviously, there are more than 50 other locations that I didn’t mentioned but these were my favorites and the easiest one to visit. I have to go back again to finish my Harry Potter Film Locations Bucket-List.
